Actually, Jen, an insider just informed me that Stella hardly uses Peace silk at all, and by her own admission it's been problematic. Here's a link to Stella's summation of where she sources her silk: https://www.stellamccartney.com/experience/us/sustainability/materials-and-innovation/silk/?fbclid=IwAR3XlXHfBYiiKxi9pdjXsj6sGuduAAPT5KLnNM9zf6IJXrlPHvQueaI76YI

So you acknowledge that she "constantly" makes "harsh criticisms of the industry" but you've never read an article in which she comes across as holier than thou. They're one and the same thing. As for her use of Peace silk, if you can provide a source indicating that she has used it exclusively since launching her brand in 2001, we will consider editing or even removing our blog post.

She’s was one of the first luxury brands to adopt peace silk prior to your article, for almost over a decade from the information out there.
So no.

The main problem you speak of is highly subjective. No one in the industry take her as holier-than-thou. I take her attitude as passionate. And her ethics are better than the fashion industry as a whole. The industry is in the top 10 of the most polluting industries. There are tons of ways for these companies to adopt more sustainable practices. It comes to little to no increase in cost. But these companies care more about short-term profit, than long-term environmental health.

Her PR constantly pushes out articles of new innovations in fabrics, her principles, and her harsh criticisms of the industry... I have never read an article that came off like what you claim.

If all you have against her is highly subjective feelings (that only pro-fur people conveniently have) instead of facts then it not going to bother with this anymore.

If Stella is using Peace silk now, good for her. But it certainly wasn't always the case. She is constantly adopting more animal-friendly alternatives, but obviously only as they become available. Meanwhile, the main problem with her, and the reason she is so often targeted, is her holier-than-thou attitude. Her PR constantly reminds us how frickin' great she is compared with the rest of the fashion industry, and it is this arrogance that makes her an obvious target whenever she puts a foot wrong. She brings this on herself.

I just stumbled into this mess and, lord is that all you got? Under the same company as Gucci? Do you think they interact? They don’t even do the same thing! These conglomerates allow the designers to operate INDEPENDENTLY. The only thing they do is help Stella with financial issues.

The point of the individual is doing as MUCH AS YOU CAN to reduce your carbon footprint. We can’t be 100% eco-conscious. If Stella has to fly all over the world to conduct business, which sometimes is done to do her due diligence with her supply chains, then that’s one needle in a haystack of environmental consciousness.

Lastly, she uses Peace silk, which is silk that allows the large to fully become moth. Do you think she’s ignorant to this? Of course she knows the larvae is boiled alive. Peace silk does no harm to the moth. However, I concede only a small percentage of the garment is from regular silk. This is still leaps and bounds than the industry standard. She’s experimenting with bolt threads, lab grown spider silk, no harm at all and will roll that out sooner or later.

And welp, there you go, your entire premise... Shattered.

About wearing fur. We were all ignorant to fur in the past. That doesn’t mean you have to throw it away. That would be wasteful. Instead, wear until it biodegrades.

About plastic, she uses recycled/regenerated plastic. And while it still doesn’t biodegrade, do you think leather is easily biodegradable? The industry processes the thing with so much chemicals it’ll be extremely touch to return it to earth

Welp there you go, this post is like a conservative news site, so much bias to your precious fur.

Hi Kim, dialogue between people with opposing views is great IF it's constructive, but when it comes to vegans vs. the fur trade, it's too late for that, isn't it? People like Stella McCartney want to shut our trade down, period. There's no room for compromise, in her view. If you can suggest a way in which Stella and the fur trade might peacefully co-exist, we'll certainly consider it.

Hypocrites rarely recognize their hypocrisy, but especially in Ms. McCartney's case, I'm not convinced her intent is to hide what she's doing. Instead of attacking her and branding her photos as if she's some evil public enemy, how about just approaching her and having a discussion with her (online or otherwise)? Most vegans had a time in their lives in which they didn't know what they know now. And even when they found out, not all made changes that day.
Most probably didn't change because someone got in their face and called them names, but because they read something, saw videos, etc...in the quiet of their room/office.

I understand where you are coming from, hypocrisy and virtue signalling is very annoying , recently I have been doing a lot of research into vegans and meat eaters and to my surprise the Vegans seem very Violent and highly emotional though intelligent. There was a time way before I got into studying fabrics when I use to see Stella on TV and subconsciously I would think, she was aging weirdly , but after my research I suspect its the vegan diet, i'm not sure but I'm seeing a lot of ex vegans telling their stories and I realize how bad it is if we let our emotions lead and not study nature without judgments. I welcome the future alternatives but I dont want any petri dish, gmo foods on my table though. Lol

Hi Freda, the debate will change greatly in years to come, as more environment-friendly materials are developed. What will be important to remember then is the positions taken today. Sure, sooner or later a plant-based alternative to silk will be developed, along with steak grown in a petri dish. But when Stella McCartney truly stops using all animal products, we hope people remember that for many years she lied about doing so.
